MAKING a meal of it! That's prize-winning pupils from St Peter's Primary School in Bury.
For they were winners of a competition to design posters for the WRVS to help recruit meals-on-wheels volunteers in the area.
The idea came from the local WRVS meals-on-wheels office. Overall winner Simone Wilkinson received £50 worth of cinema tickets for her poster.
Fellow pupils Melissa Kelly, Andre Shaw, Ella Sturman and John Carl Mylrea all received runners-up prizes.
At the same ceremony, voluntary WRVS worker Mrs Marian Hawley was presented with a medal to mark her 15 years of service.
And colleagues Mrs Dorothy Whittaker, Mrs Valerie Watson, Mrs Sheila Davidson, Mrs Joyce Knox and Mrs Betty Dobson received certificates to mark their service.
All the awards were handed out by Bury mayor Councillor Paul Nesbit who was accompanied by the mayoress, Mrs Shirley Nesbit.
The mayor said: "I was delighted to be invited to present these well-deserved prizes and awards.
"The children have all worked very hard on their posters and they came up with many thoughtful designs. I hope they help the WRVS by bringing in some more volunteers."
He added: "WRVS works at the heart of the Bury community by providing services such as meals-on-wheels to support older and housebound residents.
"So, it is a pleasure to recognise the dedication and commitment of its volunteers by presenting the medals and certificates."
