DRIVERS passing through Tyldesley to Atherton -- and vice versa -- the other Friday found themselves in a massive tailback because of piddling road works and lights.
Workmen were digging a channel just a foot wide on one half of the main road near Green Street, Hindsford, and traffic was banked up right through Tyldesley town centre. Ridiculous.
I don't know if it was the build up of car fumes, but there was a horrible smell in Elliott Street which had shopkeepers and shoppers complaining.
Anyone know what it was? And can anyone tell me why, in contrast, Golborne smelled of pear drops?
