AN estranged husband and wife who attacked a teenager after a rumpus at a barbecue, are awaiting sentence -- and could go to jail.
Timothy Stephenson, 29, of Albert Street, and Denise Stephenson, 27, of Brownhill Avenue, both Burnley, were each bailed until the week of November 5 for pre-sentence reports after being found guilty of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Both had denied the allegation during a three-day trial at Burnley Crown Court but were convicted by the jury. They were told by Recorder Teresa Griffiths the usual sentence for the offence they had committed was custody.
The court had been told how the 17-year-old victim was said to have been attacked with a baseball bat and an axe after trouble flared at the party. Denise Stephenson had wiped her hands covered in spaghetti bolognaise on the hostess' settee and she and a woman who objected scuffled.
The victim, dropped off by friends in a car after the party, was later found "screaming his eyes out", and taken to hospital. His friend told the jury how Timothy Stephenson had hit their vehicle with the axe. Another witness had described him as "mad."
