I WOULD like to correct any wrong impression given in the remarks of Mr Graham Cannon (Letters, October 4).
I have not and never have suggested that there was any justification in the appalling events of September 11. They must be clearly condemned.
I was saying that terrorism is never justified in any cause even if that cause might by some be considered justified. I referred to Palestine and Israel and the situation in Kashmir and there are many other examples.
Mr Cannon put a connotation on my words that was not intended and thoroughly wrong.
I would just repeat also that action needs to be taken for those responsible but we need to avoid the deaths of many other innocent people.
We also need to ensure that reprisals do not invite further reprisals that escalate in a dangerous and unacceptable way even putting in danger the whole concept of world peace.
PETER PIKE, MP for Burnley.
