LR manager Alan Lord and nine goal leading scorer Barry Massay were sensationally sent off in a disappointing and bad tempered Friday defeat at Crilly Park.
In a very open first half LR not for the first time this season had the better chances but failed to make them count. Incensed at one or two controversial refereeing decisions team boss Lord spoke out of turn and was shown red. Two goals in quick succession on 60 and 65 minutes gave Prescot a cushion and a third was added in the last minute after Massay had received his marching orders on 85 minutes
Radcliffe Boro 1 Workington 1
Jody Banim struck his eleventh goal of the season as Boro were held to a home stalemate. It could have been worse for Kevin Glendon,s side as Workington took the lead on 17 minutes through Graham Goulding. Apart from an Eamonn Elliott effort it was Boro keeper Danny Hurst who was the busier of the two in the first half. The game came alive after the break with the home team far livelier. Rick Battersby produced several dangerous runs down the flank before Banim latched onto an Elliott through ball to round the keeper and square the scores on 67 minutes. Andy Walker struck a post and Tony Whealing hit the side-netting but equally Workington also had late chances with a draw undoubtedly the fair result.
Ramsbottom Utd 2 Mossley 4
Bad luck is certainly plaguing the Rams.
Keeper Martin Campbell put through his own goal on five minutes with striker Russell Brierley wasting an opportunity to level before the break with a penalty miss. Undeterred by that experience Brierley did level the scores on 51 minutes with a second penalty award. Mossley took a 3-1 lead before a mad scramble on 88 minutes saw man of the match David Yorke-Robinson force the ball over the line for United but a mass brawl which ensued saw Brierley and a Mossley player sent of. A second Rams own goal on the night this time from Steve Sheil gifted the visitors all the three points.
Salford City 4 Atherton Colls 1
Defensive errors left Colls with too much to do at Salford. Bad marking from a 30th corner saw Salford ahead at the break but with Atherton having been marginally the better side. Colls keeper Cyril Shorrocks elected to punch rather than catch in the first minute of the second half and got punished with Salford,s third an own goal by Brook Astle. Having conceded a fourth Colls rallied late with Liam Carr scoring a screamer. Centre back Paul dowle was named Kensite man of the match. Kidsgrove Athletic visit Alder House tonight for a NWCL Division One fixture kick off 7.45pm.
Daisy Hill 0 Glossop North End 2
Despite several players missing through injury and suspension Daisy still gave Division One outfit Glossop a run for their money in the Worthington Challenge Shield Round One. Having given a bad goal away after only three minutes The News Sirs lads still gave Glossop plenty to worry about before a second goal killed the game off. "It was very disappointing" said manager Alan Aspinall. "I felt with our full side we could have done something against them." Midfielder Jimmy Collins won the star performer vote.
