A BARN in Leigh suffered extensive damage after a severe fire earlier today.
The blaze destroyed a large part of the brick-sided barn at Sandy Pool Farm, Alderley Lane, including the roof.
A stack of 400 bales of hay inside the barn as well as 300 bales piled next to the building were also destroyed in the fire which started at 3am.
Firefighters will spend the day clearing-up after the blaze, which is now under investigation, and will have to de-contaminate their clothes as the collapsed roof of the barn may have contained asbestos.
