YOU'RE not singing anymore! - That is the message Lancashire Constabulary and Burnley Football Club want to get across to racists.
The local part of the national Kick Racism out of Football Campaign was launched at Turf Moor by road police and planning inspector, Dave Shepard, Burnley's ground safety manager Alex Wood and club mascot Berty Bee.
The campaign, also backed by the Football League, Football Association and FA Premier League will involve the distribution of banners, stickers and badges at turnstiles. There will also be tannoy announcements and magazine articles to relay the anti-racist message.
Insp Shepard is hoping it will go some way to giving racism the boot, just two months after racial distrubances crippled part of the town and led to scores of arrests. He said: "We will certainly be doing our bit to spread the message that there is no room for racism in Burnley -- and that includes at football matches."
"Tough action will be taken against anyone caught singing racist chants or using racist language -- and that is no idle threat.
"We have made arrests in the past and we will seek to do so again where there is firm evidence of wrong-doing."
"Police in Pennine Division are already working hard to give racism the red card."
