DARWEN firefighters' fund-raising weekend was a huge success with £1,8000 being raised over two days for the New York Firefighters' Benevolent Fund.
The firefighters wanted to raise money for the families of their counterparts who were killed in the terrorist attacks on New York last month.
A car wash by fireman on Saturday near the Golden Cup pub proved extremely popular, firefighter were kept busy washing hundreds of cars and managed to raise with £1,673 in just four hours.
And £224 was collected on Sunday during the county-wide walk organised by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service which passed through Darwen on Sunday tea-time
Leading firefighter Thomas Ashworth said: "We would like to thank all the people of Darwen for their contributions and support."
