A SPECIAL effort will be made in Todmorden next year to win accolades in the Best in Britain competition.
The town council, hoping for backing from elsewhere, has upped the grant to the Todmorden In Bloom group to £1,000. Councillor Michael Goldthorpe told the amenities committee: "The town looked fabulous last year and it was right that we took the top honour. That can only do us good and if we start early enough, I'm sure we can impress the judges again."
Coun Goldthorpe said it was important to ensure the town was put in a good light because all the favourable publicity would help in promoting Todmorden as a place to stay and visit while people were spectators at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Councillor Joe Rez also praised the efforts of newly appointed street cleaner Ian Wilson, who, he said, had done a first rate job in keeping the streets clean and tidy.
The appeal for financial support came from the secretary of the Todmorden In Bloom group organisers, Madelaine Hoyle.
