FOREIGN Secretary Jack Straw's constituents should be made aware of his actions which have betrayed British citizens in Gibraltar.
Nearly half the population found it necessary to demonstrate against the British Government, which, despite the opposition of the elected representatives of Gibraltar, is negotiating with Spain under the Brussels process, when Spain has clearly stated that it wants sovereignty over Gibraltar.
The wishes of Gibraltar cannot be clearer. In a recent opinion poll when asked "Do you think Gibraltar should be Spanish?" 0 per cent said 'Yes' while 98 per cent said 'No' and two per cent were don't knows.
But on a recent visit to Gibraltar, Foreign Office Minister Peter Hain stated that Gibraltarians did not have a right of self determination. Not only are they negotiating with Spain against the wishes of Gibraltar, but they have also capitulated to Spain by excluding Gibraltar Airport from the European Single Skies agreement, to the economic detriment of Gibraltar.
It's about time Jack Straw stood up for the interests of British Citizens.
PAUL SMITH, Lowerhouse Lane, Burnley.
