A CHECK on the results from the junior rugby scene.
Leyland Warriors U15s Girls 20 Castleford Panthers 26
A STRONG performance saw the Warriors girls run out narrow losers to a strong Castleford team taking a first half lead through Kirsty Marshall and Steph Boardman. The girls fought all the way and surprised the opposition with their aggression. Further tries followed from Kirsty Marshall, Charley Naylor and player of the match Marie Lorenzen but Castleford edged ahead towards the end. Top tackler was Fran Cooper.
Leyland Warriors U8s 32 Chorley Panthers 32
AN outstanding game to watch as both teams continuously ran tries over the line. Lewis Hayes on loan from the Panthers helped Warriors with three great tries. Man of the match Jack Martland ran in two tries as well as Billy Saundry's first try of the season. A great defence for the Warriors gave Harvey May top tackler as well as two tries. Most improved player was Josh Singleton. Well done.
Saddleworth Rangers U9s 16 Leyland Warriors 16
EDEN 'Swede' Clayton got his first hat trick this season and is having a great run at the moment. Sam 'Dallas' Singleton, Brandon 'Beady' Dixon worked hard showing the highest forward run count. A great defensive line controlled by David Palin and Matthew 'Matty Lad ' Smith left little room for the opposition.
Pilkington Recs U14s 16 Leyland Warriors 13
IT was agony for Leyland after a terrific effort against one of the divisional title favourites. The Warriors played with determination throughout and only had victory snatched away from them in the closing minutes of the second half. The home side never really had control of the game and had a few disputable decisions gone the way of Leyland, the final result could have been very different. Martin Bishop and Daniel Armstrong -- who also added a field goal -- posted tries for the Warriors with Phillip Campbell successfully converting both.
Pilkington Recs U18s 20 Leyland Warriors 6
ALL the Warriors players were committed but played as individuals and not as a team. The try from Ian Schofield was scored from good support play. Top tackler was Andrew Scargill.
