THE number of patients on waiting lists for hospital treatment for more than a year in Blackburn and Burnley dropped by 40 in August.
Figures released by the NHS Executive North West show there were 5,063 patients on the waiting list with Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley NHS Trust in August. This compared with 5,068 the previous month, down by five -- representing only 0.1 per cent of patients.
Burnley Healthcare NHS trust had 4,618 on the waiting list for July, which was cut by 35 in August to 4,583 -- a drop of 0.8 per cent.
The local figures reflected the national trend, where the numbers of patients waiting for more than a year dropped by 0.8 per cent to 44,900.
