IHAVE no doubt that with the proletariat now better educated and informed and more mobile, the days of unelected monarchs and political, military and religious dictators are coming to an end -- whether they like it or not.
Towards the end of the 18th century, Tom Paine, the Norfolk-born writer and reformer, completed his most famous book 'The Rights of Man,' in which he called for all nations to be fully democratic with their leaders elected by the mass of the people. Let us hope this aim is fulfilled well before the end of the 21st century.
