BURY'S libraries need an extra £575,000 over the next two years to meet new Government standards.
Extended opening hours and more books will have to wait until councillors find the money during the annual budget wrangles.
However, bosses forecast improvements in other areas of the service, as detailed in their annual library plan.
There should be a better sensory impairment service, more help for ethnic minorities, and more computerised facilities such as the new IT centre being built in Radcliffe.
A £550,000 cash injection, from the Government and the council, is to pay for more technology projects including free Internet access.
