RESIDENTS in Radcliffe's Stand Lane are being consulted on the latest package of measures aimed at putting safety first.
The road has been identified as an accident blackspot, with 18 injuries over the last three years.
Residents were consulted on an earlier safety scheme, but gave it a lukewarm response.
They argued that it contained too many pedestrian refuges, which would make manoeuvring and parking difficult.
New proposals, with non-slip surfacing, "Slow" markings, and fewer refuges were drawn up. The plans were approved subject to consultation at a meeting of the highways and traffic management committee on Tuesday (Oct 9). Five pedestrian refuges are now planned, with right turn lanes into Thornley Street, Stonehewer Street, Queen Street, Hollinhurst Road and Beech Street.
A left turn lane is also proposed into Rossall Avenue.
