POULTON residents have welcomed a council decision to refuse to let a night club stay open longer on Sunday nights.
Members of Wyre Borough Council's housing and environmental services (licensing) sub-committee decided at a meeting last week to refuse an application by The Residence night club, Vicarage Road to extend its closing time on Sundays from 10.30pm to 12.30am, and 2am on bank holiday weekends except Easter.
One resident of nearby Prudy Hill, who asked not be named, said: "I am absolutely delighted that The Residence has been refused its extended Sunday licensing.
"The club already causes enough noise and disruption on Prudy Hill on Fridays and Saturdays."
Another neighbour said the application might have been granted if the club had cut down on noise emissions.
Residence owner Elliott Simpson confirmed there had been objections to the applications, but said he was considering an appeal.
Whether I appeal against it or not is yet to be seen," he said. "There were a couple of objections and I will obviously come up against the same things, but a lot of the objections were splitting hairs."
He confirmed there had been an ongoing problem with a neighbour and noise problems but said there had been no complaints for a while.
He said: "As I explained at the committee, I don't want to open every Sunday but there's a couple over Christmas and obviously the bank holidays.
"It's not just beneficial to me but the 12,000 members that I now have. Why on earth shouldn't people be allowed to carry on and enjoy themselves when everyone else in the country is enjoying themselves?"
Licensing sub-committee member Councillor Marlene Colby said: "We just listened to the residents and we realised that enough was enough. They did not want to be kept awake any later than they already are.
"It was nothing to do with trouble -- the residents had put in an objection over noise and people leaving glasses about. It was just general noise nuisance," she said.
