A MAN who suffered stab wounds in an alleged attack on his doorstep has put his home on the market and said: "I never want to go back there again."
Father-of-two Mark Winstanley is still recovering from his injuries, which included knife wounds to his back, chest, side and arm.
He claimed he had gone outside his home in Gillibrand Street, Darwen, after hearing a man cry for help.
He spent two days in hospital undergoing surgery for his injuries, and then spent two weeks waiting to find out if the slash on his arm would cost him the use of his left-hand fingers for good.
Although he has been told he will recover, Mark, 28, claims his life will never be the same again.
He and his wife Andrea, have put their home -- their first -- on the market and are now looking for somewhere else to live.
Mark said: "I have not been back there since everything happened.
"I just don't want too. It frightens me because of the bad memories of what happened."
The couple have two children, Michael, two and Georgia, eight weeks.
They were inside the house at the time of the alleged attack.
Mark added: "We have moved in with my parents in Lower Darwen for the time being and have put the house on the market.
"It is a nice house, but because of what has happened, I do not want to live there any more. We hope to find somewhere else locally."
Mark has also put his job, working for a door-to-door products company, on hold for the time being.
He added: "It is a relief that I will have the use of both hands again, because I was really concerned when the doctors said they weren't sure what would happen in the future.
"I spent two days back in hospital last week after I felt ill. It turned out I had bruising on my lungs, brought on by the original wounds.
"I would like to thank the doctors at Blackburn Royal Infirmary for all their help. They saved me.
"The paramedics were great, too, as was my wife, who used the first aid she learnt at Blackburn College to stop blood coming out of me."
A local man has appeared in court charged with wounding in relation to the incident.
