RECYCLING was promoted at a family fun day held at the Waterbridge Centre in Colne.
'Waste Not, Want Not' was designed to provide a fun way for local people to learn about waste issues such as composting and recycling. Activities included face painting, a puppet show, a community artist and workshops on making things from recycled materials.
A number of organisations including Pendle Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, Tidy Britain Group and the Open Door Furniture Scheme were involved showing residents how they can help to reduce waste ending up in landfill sites.
Earthlings Community Composting, from Burnley, also showed visitors how to make a wormery for their yard or garden.
The event was organised by Pendle Community Action Network (CAN) and Pendle Council to mark the Tidy Britain Group's waste month of October.
Coun Dorothy Ormrod, a spokesperson for the council's administration on waste issues, said: "We can't as a society go on producing so much household waste that goes to landfill. The landfill sites in this area will be full by 2008. We must act now to reduce household waste and recycle more of it."
