DARWEN played some of their best football of the season but their failure to convert chances cost them.
The home side could have been four up before Stone scored the opener. Denny Khan fired over the crossbar when he maybe should have headed Dave Rhodes' cross.
Paul Baker created two chances with headers back across the six-yard box but no one was there to capitalise and Lee Webb also.
Darwen player-manager Steve Wilkes was at fault for the first goal when he got wrong side of the attacker but Darwen should have equalised straight from the kick off through Webb. On the hour Darwen equalised through Denny Khan but a penalty given away by Matt Anderton on 75 and a late third sealed the win for the visitors
RESULT: DARWEN...1 STONE...3
