ROSSENDALE'S name is in the hat for the last qualifying round of the FA Cup but they still have to get the better of Barrow after the two sides drew at Holker Street.
The UniBond Premier high flyers will now make the trip to Dark Lane in the third qualifying round replay tomorrow night as First Division Dale look to claim a major scalp - and pocket another £10,000 in the process.
Dale started the game with youngster Billy Carrington in the goal due to the injury to regular keeper Mark Andrews and he proved the hero of the day.
Carrington pulled off a string of fine saves in the early stages but, after only nine minutes, Barrow took the lead. The Dale shotstopper got a hand to a Peverell header direct from a corner but could not stop it going into the net.
Rossendale could have equalised on the stroke of half time when a bad back pass let Dave Gray in but the defence recovered to smother the danger.
Manager Jim McCluskie's half-time talk worked wonders and Rossendale forced their way back into the game and after only two minutes Mark Patterson shot just wide with only the keeper to beat.
It was that man Carrington again, however, who stopped the Dale going two down and a wonder-save from a close range volley that even had the Barrow keeper applauding.
In the 56th minute Rossendale equalised when Dave Gray forced the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble that saw the ball bouncing around like a pinball.
It was what Rossendale deserved and they then began to press forward looking for the winner and Steve Bird headed just over the bar from a corner and Gray's powerful shot was well held by the keeper.
RESULT: BARROW AFC...1 ROSSENDALE UTD...1
