A 41-YEAR-OLD woman and a 31-year-old man have appeared in court charged in connection with the abduction of four young girls, including 13-year-old Melissa Strickson who died after taking a suspected drug overdose at their Darwen flat.
Sally Corkhill and Lee Harrison, 31, both of Sudell Road, Darwen, are charged with four offences of abduction relating to Melissa, of Tythebarn Street, Darwen, a 14-year-old girl and two 11-year-old girls who cannot be named for legal reasons. Corkhill is also charge with supplying a Class C drug, diazepam, to Harrison.
Melissa is believed to have died at their flat after taking an overdose of prescribed medication.
The 14-year-old girl is also believed to have taken tablets and was in a coma for two days.
Blackburn magistrates ordered that the cases should be heard at Preston Crown Court and both defendants were remanded in custody until October 22 for the preparation of committal papers.
