HOW MANY pupils does it take to plant a crocus bulb? Pupils at St Cuthbert's RC primary school might have the answer, as they launched a special crocus bulb planting scheme this week.
Youngsters at the Blackpool school started planting their share of 17,000 bulbs destined for school grounds across the town.
Several schools, including Palatine, Stanley, Holy Family and and Moor Park, are also signed up for the planting programme, which will continue until early November.
The programme is being run by Blackpool parks department and the Local Agenda 21 (LA 21) unit which works to highlight environmental issues.
Council leader Coun Roy Fisher said: "Blackpool parks are providing all the bulbs, and the LA21 unit is working with the children to plant the bulbs and talk about the environment and local wildlife.
"Next spring, when the crocuses flower, it will be a colourful reminder to our pupils of their efforts and the wonders of nature."
