YOUNGSTERS from the Broncobusters Western Line Dance team are feeling more than a little cheesed off after eating hundreds of bags of crisps to raise money for a worthy cause, only to find they had been the victims of a hoax!
The young dancers began their marathon munch-in after being told of a campaign to raise money for a little girl allegedly suffering from kidney disease. They were told that if they could manage to eat the equivalent of the girl's weight in Walkers Crisps and send their empty packets as evidence, the company would buy the girl a dialysis machine.
Joy Cook, who runs Broncobusters, told the Star: "The children involved local schools and supermarkets in their attempts to help someone less fortunate, only to find out this was a cruel hoax by someone who must have a very sick mind."
A spokesperson for Walkers confirmed that they had not been asked to support any such charity. She said: "Walkers Snack Foods extends every sympathy to the people who have collected empty packets and we would request that they dispose of their empty crisp packets in a tidy and environmentally-friendly way as normal".
