THANK you for the way in which your organisation contributed to the success of our fund-raising efforts for the wives and orphans of firefighters who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in America on September 11.
The fantastic sum of £1,673.35 was raised during our four-hour marathon car wash and another £474.16 was raised through a collection around some of Darwen's pubs and donations received at the station.
A team of Lancashire firefighters set off on October 5 from our international training centre in Chorley and visited each one of the 41 fire stations in Lancashire, finally arriving at our headquarters at 5pm on October 8.
Collections were made en route and several fire stations organised co-ordinated events. The grand total raised is in excess of £45,000.
Once again, thank you for your kind help and generosity.
STEVE COPE, Station Commander, Fire Station, Union Street, Darwen.
