PLANS for a mobile phone mast on a landmark Lancaster building are to be discussed by councillors on Monday.
Officers have recommended acceptance for the plans for a One-2-One mast on the roof of the Priory Church, St Mary's Gate.
The mast will also serve as a replacement for an existing flagpole and will be of a similar size and appearance. It will be bolted to the roof but completely hidden by the tower parapets.
The company has pledged that all equipment will be located on a platform inside the tower belfry.
The application has attracted controversy because of its location and proximity to several other mobile masts which have been given the go ahead in recent months.
Officers have described the plans as 'a novel and interesting solution to the problem of siting telecommunications systems within conservation areas.'
The application will be discussed at a meeting of the Planning and Highways Regulatory Committee at Morecambe Town Hall at 10.30am on Monday, October 22.
