THE years went rolling back - six decades of 'em! - for pensioner Anne Salmon when she spotted a picture on this page (September 20) featuring five Home Guard despatch riders.
For there, right in the middle of the high-revving Dad's Army gang, was her hubby, Joseph, proudly posing in full uniform and tin-hat. The picture was taken in 1940, so I was quite surprised that, after that lapse of more than 60 years, at least one of the fivesome was identified.
Anne, from Willow Court, Clock Face Road, writes: "I can't name the others, but they had their base or office in Powell Street, Sutton, and drew their pay from the town hall".
