THE Shepherds Skyline Fell Race on November 3 is to be re-named the Harry Clayton Memorial Fell Race in honour of the co-founder of Todmorden Harriers.

Harry Clayton died last week after suffering a heart attack following his retirement from the Bowgreave 10 road race. He was 70.

Several hundred attended his funeral on Monday which was both sad and uplifting at the same time.

Tributes to Harry are being posted on the Harriers website www.todharriers.co.uk.

If you would like to add your own thoughts and memories or submit photographs, the club would be pleased to hear from you.

Please send details to harrys-page@todharriers.co.uk.

PREVIOUS race winner Roger Brewster returns to the Coniston 14M year after year and seldom leaves empty handed.

Now an over 45, the Clayton Harrier was the leading veteran, placing third overall in 1:17:42 as over 800 athletes raced once round the lake.

Andrew Hartley clocked 1:20:32 for eighth while John Singleton in 32nd made it three Clayton men under 1:30.

Darwen Dashers new recruit Don Ashton won the over 60's in 1:33:35 and Jeannette Coleman from Chorley Harriers was the winning F40 in 1:36:52.

The former Blackburn Harrier not only won the over 65 age group, but his time of 41:53 left the M55 and M60 winners in his wake.

Blackburn Road Runners had two winners with Michelle Holden leading home the F35's and John Mitchell collecting the M55 award.

The leading local finishers were Clayton's Andrew Taylor who was fifth and Darwen Dasher Zoe Braithwaite, 4th lady to Lancaster and Morecambe runner Joanne Perry.
