I AM utterly appalled by plans to pull down Ashton Pavilion in Ashton Gardens and the plan to build flats on the site. What on earth was Fylde Borough Council thinking? Ashton Gardens and its buildings are the property of the people of the Fylde. They are not for personal homes and business profit.

The original deed of covenant of Ashton Gardens states that "the Council and its assigns will forever hereafter leave open and unbuilt upon". What part of the words "forever hereafter" and "unbuilt upon" does Fylde Borough Council not understand ?

I have taken a look at the type of flats that Newfield Jones Homes builds. Some people like them but personally I think that they are pretty ugly. Just remember how dated flats from the 70s or 80s look now. In thirty years they'll be an eyesore. And our heritage, the beautiful Ashton Pavilion, will be lost forever.

Our politicians can push things through when we are apathetic or when we think we can't do anything. I urge your readers to write, fax and e-mail the council to voice their outrage at this disgusting plan.
