THE other week I laughed with Clooney at the Vaudeville, saw Doddy at the Grand on Sunday but was still not prepared for the farce of a council meeting at St Annes on Monday.
There was standing room only. The script was simple. A skateboard park is required for youths who are well behaved, drug free, teetotallers and trouble free. One councillor said that this would cure the vandalism problem?
Unfortunately, the whole council in all its power is not able to find a site in the whole of the borough!
One plan to convert a Fairhaven Lake tennis court near to inner prom domestic property has been backhanded by the residents in memory of a previous High Court ruling governing nuisance and noise.
The audience of youths and ratepayers stood in silence to remember the legal fees and costs incurred.
The Second Act brightened as grown men and women representing Fylde ratepayers laughed and cried with a red-faced head of planning repeating no less than four times that the indecision was not his section! Other senior councillors made procedural noises and the Fairhaven rep expressed his dislike of groups?
The children and the Fairhaven residents were now laughing together at the absurdity of the evening.
A young councillor welcomed the democracy of the debate and went on to dictate his own self interest.
It was left to the common sense of our Mayor, who visibly winced at the sound of jet skis, to refer the matter back again to the T&L for more discussion.
What a farce!! Doddy went on longer but only just!!
On the way out one 14-year-old was heard to ask if it was possible to find a small recreation area near the airport soccer fields for the best skate park? Surely not?
My ticket was free. That is, was paid for by you,z the ratepayer! Do not miss the next meeting of the T&L. If you heckle, members can threaten to change their vote which is very valuable to them.
