A TIPPER wagon driver has appeared at Burnley Magistrates Court accused over the death of a schoolboy in a road accident.
Stephen John Crossley, 41, of Burnley Road, Trawden, is charged with causing the death of seven-year-old Gary Lee Ormerod by dangerous driving in Burnley Road, Colne.
Crossley spoke only to confirm his name and address during the hearing in front of District Judge Paul Firth.
The judge sent his case to Burnley Crown Court and Crossley was unconditionally bailed until November 6.
Gary, of Burnley Road, died on Monday when he was in collision with a lorry near the junction with Phillips Lane.
The boy had been to a friend's house and was walking home with his nine-year-old brother, one of three elder brothers, at around 4.30pm.
As they crossed the pelican crossing, a red tipper wagon which was heading towards Colne collided with Gary.
CCTV cameras on a Burnley and Pendle bus which had stopped at the crossing recorded the incident.
Gary suffered multiple injuries to his head and body in the accident and despite being taken to Burnley General Hospital, staff were unable to save him.
Piles of flowers and soft toys have been put by the roadside close to the crossing in memory of the Primet Primary School pupil.
