Adlington 14 Blackbrook 24 BROOK'S stand off Andy Shaw produced a 20 point haul for his side as they went two points clear at the top of Division One.
The visitors had to come from behind as two unconverted tries gave the home side an early eight point lead. Despite this Brook were always on top and did not lose confidence in their ability to win the game.
Shaw's first try came as Brook kept the ball alive on the last tackle and the half back latched on to Jason Mitchell's clever inside pass to score under the posts. With five minutes of the half remaining he spotted a gap in the homesides defence to run clear and score. Shaw also added the two conversions to his tries.
The home side fancied their chances playing down a prominent slope in the second period however Brook's forwards had other ideas and superb defence kept their repeated attacks at bay. Midway through the half it was Brook's turn to mount pressure on the home sides line and centre Ste Woods spotted a gap under the posts to reach out and score. Shaw again converted to stretch Brook's lead to 10 points.
A length of the field converted try from Adlington reduced the arrears and left Brook with an anxious last ten minutes. However, Andy Shaw's hat trick try finally saw off the brave home side's effort.
Andy Shaw was the Andrew Douglas man of the match with Dave Walker, Jason Mitchell and Ste Woods all playing well. Brook entertain Spring View on Saturday with a 2.30pm kick off at Boardmans Lane.
Blackbrook Royals U15s 32 Leigh East 6 BLACKBROOK turned in their best performance of the season against a very good Leigh East side. Leading 12-0 at half time Brook pushed on to play some outstanding rugby. Royals tries came from Dane Shepherd, Martin Hill, Peter Becker. Ian Webster and Phil McSpirit (2) who also goaled and collected the Mike Barrer Builder man of the match award.
Woolston U14s 20 Blackbrook Royals 34 Brook were not at their best but were always too strong for a game Woolston team. Tries came from Dean McGilvray (2), Chris Brown (2), Chris Frodsham, James Walker and man of the match Paul Clough. Sam Melia took the top tackler award.
Blackbrook U13s 15 Leigh East 16 Leigh held the Royals to four nil at half time. Royals came back with two exciting tries from the man of the match Kizzy Edwards and one from Will Abbott in the corner. A drop goal added to Bobbie Littler's conversion in the dying minute, but a mistake by the Royals at the restart took Leigh over the whitewash once again and took the conversion to win the game.
Top tackle awards go to Ryan Robinson, Bobbie Littler, Mark Bostock, Dan Fairhurst, Kurt Haggerty, Stu Harmon, Kieran Naylor and Danny Smith all reaching high double figures, Adam Twamley also deserves a mention for a great individual effort.
Blackbrook U12s 12 West Bank B 22 Royals were overpowered by a much bigger and physical West Bank outfit and although they rallied well in the second half were unable to make amends for some defensive lapses early in the game.
Tries came from Shane Sparrow (2) and Chris McGrath. Gary Wheeler was man of the match and coaches award winner Ian Marren and top tackler Andy Donovan also had outstanding games.
Blackbrook U10s 38 West Bank Bears 0 This was a good team effort by Brook in both attack and defence. Tries came from man of the match Nathan Goodwin (3), top tackler Daniel Craven, Liam Holland (2) and Adam Price. Dean Craven set up tries throughout the game whilst Alex Holland took the coaches award.
Blackbrook Royals U10s 50 West Bank 0 Royals under 10s squad's second game contained some strong running from David Pike who also scored a try and took the top tackler award. Other scores came from man of the match Adam Fackey (2), coaches award winner Joshua Ainsworth (2), Adam Welsby (2) and Karl Haggerty (2).
Royton Tigers U9s 4 Royals 32 This was an excellent all round team performance with tries from Brother UK man of the match James Brown, top tackler Nathan Keough, Daniel Kellet (3), Adam Swift (3), Daniel Parkes, Daniel Morris and Andrew Morris. Wesley Lyon also scored and was most improved player.
Blackbrook Royals U8s 48 Moorfields 0 Jonathan Ford led the way with a hat-trick with other tries scored by Craig Davies (2), Martin Slater, Ryan Klemp and Ryan Armson.Ryan Armson was deservedly named man of the match with Liam Crook awarded top tackler. Jonathan Vosper received the most improved award.
