THE legends of yesteryear's rugby league test circuit are hitting the trail again with Great Britain's Lions of the 80s and 90s locking horns with the Aussie Invincibles from the 1982 and 1986 tours.
The sides take the field at the Autoquest Stadium in Widnes on Saturday, November 10 (6.30pm) and lining up for the Green and Golds will be former Saints' hero Mal Meninga.
He will be joined by a host of other household names - including Wally Lewis, Brett Kenny, Eric Grothe and Kerry Boustead.
Britain will be served by Paul Loughlin, Des Drummond, Steve Hampson, Gary Schofield and Andy Gregory.
And there is a unique opportunity for one St Helens amateur player to win a place on the bench and a guarantee to play a part of the match - for either side.
We are looking for clubs, supporters and teammates to nominate a player who deserves the chance to play on this illustrious stage- someone who has shown commitment to amateur rugby league in the town. Nominees should preferably be over 30 to match the age profile of the stars. There will be more details about the prize in next week's Star. In the meantime send your nominations, with a 50 word explanation as to why you have chosen the player and a potted career/club history, to the sports editor, St Helens Star, YMCA Buildings, Duke Street, St Helens, WA10 2HZ. The deadline for entries is November 1.
The Star accepts no responsibility for any injuries incurred during the game. If you simply want to watch you can buy tickets from Fisher Promotions on 01925 629091 or by calling Widnes RLFC on 0151 495 2250
