Hindsford v Atherton Town Preview by Martyn Hindley
THE quarter-finals of this year's Goldline Trophy in association with the Bolton Evening News kick-off tomorrow night with a potential thriller between Hindsford and Atherton Town at Atherton Collieries.
Manchester League side Hindsford progressed to the knockout phase against all expectations after eliminating Atherton LR with a 3-1 win against the former champions from just down the road at Crilly Park.
LR had just put nine past tournament debutants Rivington when the shock result came thanks to goals from Chris Jolley, Mark Redmond and Stuart Lomax.
Earlier in the compeition, Matt Toone had struck all four goals as Hindsford had defeated Rivington.
Town though will be no pushovers. They have experience of the event themselves when they reached the final of the first competition at Hilton Park only to crash 3-0 to Atherton LR and will be hot favourites to make the last four after their superb group form saw them win Group A.
Town's progression can be put partially down to victory by default against Eagley, but also by their free-scoring style that was shown through the exquisite form of Danny Christie.
It is certain to be a superb game given the locality of the two sides and the prize at stake - a place in the Goldline semi-finals. The match will kick-off at 7:30pm and will be played under floodlights to ensure a sparkling atmosphere.
