NOW a grandmother, but still active, Mrs Dorothy Hampson, of Harwood, Bolton, was even more on the go when she was pictured with this group in the early 1950s. For they are members of Blackburn Cycling Club.
In the pre-Lycra era of this picture, sent to Looking Back by the then Dorothy Knowles, who is seen third left in the front row, evidently zip-up windcheaters were popular biking gear and ankle socks obligatory for the ladies.
Mrs Hampson, who moved to Harrogate in 1957 and later to Bolton, still recalls the first names of many of the girls in the front row and identifies her friend in the back row, Margaret Whittam, with whom she is still in contact.
But, she asks, where are the others now?
"I often cast my mind back and wonder what happened to them all. It would be lovely to find some of them and get in touch," she says.
