NO coach likes to see goals being conceded from set-pieces whether they are working with experienced pros or promising youngsters.
So there was an air of frustration for Rovers Under 17s on Saturday when they conceded three bad goals, two from set plays, in a 3-3 draw with Bolton at Brockhall.
Academy chief Bobby Downes said: "I watched the Under 17s and sometimes with young players you have to accept that mistakes will be made.
"To be honest I felt it was one of those games where if we had scored five they would have scored five as well.
"The set piece goals were disappointing because that is something you work on with them on the training ground."
Jerome Watt had an impressive game for Rovers, scoring two goals from his central midfield role, and the third came from Carl Francis.
"Our boys fell behind three times but kept going and it is positive that they managed to come back three times."
The older players in the Under 19 side had a better afternoon as they followed up an 11-1 demolition of Wrexham with a 2-0 victory over Bolton. Coach Ian Miller was very pleased with the way the side performed, although it could and maybe should have been more, and striker John Walters got both the goals.
It is a busy time for both Academy sides and this weekend they travel to take on the in-form teams at Crewe Alexandra.
"Crewe are going well at the moment but we have some big games ahead of us," said Downes. "After Crewe we have got Man United and then Man City."
