DARWEN'S first skatepark is a huge success -- according to one of its organisers Debbie Bentley.
The Rhythm skatepark, in Percival Street, officially opened its doors on Saturday and has so far attracted hundreds of sporting enthusiasts.
The 9,000 sq ft park has facilities for BMXers, in-line skaters and skateboarders.
Mrs Bentley said: "It has been absolutely brilliant and everything went fantastically well. Being new to be honest we were a bit terrified -- but it was phenomenal with a few hundred people through the door on Saturday and around 200 spectators. Sunday was a bit less hectic but there were still a lot of people arriving."
The park has been eight months in the making and cost £40,000. Its organisers say it will give youngsters somewhere safe to practice their sport and it was desperately needed as there were no other facilities in the area.
