TWO hammers and a crowbar snatched from a nearby shop were used in an attack on a man in Burnley, police revealed today.
The 22-year-old victim is now recovering in hospital following surgery on a broken shin.
He has also had more than 50 staples inserted in a head wound.
Police are appealing for information about the savage assault which happened at 4.15pm on Monday in Briercliffe Road, Burnley.
The man, a local Asian, was pursued by a gang of other Asians in a white Suzuki Vitari before being cornered at the bottom of Briercliffe Road, near Duke Bar.
In desperate attempts to escape he tried to get into two cars, a blue Ford Transit van and a cream Metro or Maestro in standing traffic in Colne Road.
Police want to hear from the drivers of those vehicles or from anyone who saw the incident.
DC Dave Walker said: "The victim has suffered quite serious injuries and is now recovering in hospital."
The incident is thought to be connected to a a dispute in the early hours of the same day which escalated into the afternoon attack.
