MR Duxbury alleges that there are one million illegal immigrants already in this country, but can he explain exactly what problem they present?
After all, as illegal immigrants they can't be claiming state social security benefits because this would reveal their presence to the authorities.
It is already an offence to employ anyone who has not got an "identity" card, ie P45 and national insurance number, so they cannot be legally employed.
Of course some unscrupulous employers might take advantage of them, but I am sure that if they had to have identity cards the same employers would not do so.
The real reason, Mr Duxbury, that thinking people are worried about compulsory identity cards, is because they are concerned about the potential for abuse that they present.
