INITIAL investigations into the death of a two-year-old girl on holiday have been completed tourism bosses said today.

But Airtours, which is carrying out the internal inquiry, said it could be weeks until the results are published.

The Rossendale-based holiday company launched the investigation after the death of Kirsty Wright earlier this month.

The two-year-old drowned in a pool while on holiday with parents Lee and Linda and older brothers William and Matthew at the Hotel Ilios, on the Greek island of Kos. Her parents think the youngster slipped into the pool on the last day of their fortnight holiday.

A spokesman for Airtours said: "The preliminary investigation has finished although we don't know the findings yet. It could take some time."

The investigation included representatives from the hotel, Greek authorities and eye-witness statements. Parents Lee and Linda, of Pilmuir Road, Blackburn, gave a statement to Greek police immediately after the tragedy. The hotel and Greek authorities have also launched their own investigation.

Kirsty was buried last week at Pleasington Cemetery following a service at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, yards from her home.

Kirsty was laid to rest with her favourite Tweenie and was called a "smiling angel" by Father Brian Keely, who conducted the service as a tribute to the family.

Mr Keely recently left Our Lady's for a church in the Moss Side area of Manchester and came back especially.
