A CLEVELEYS youngster has won a competition for putting kids in the picture over road safety.
Lauren Murphy, 10, a pupil at Anchorsholme Primary school, won a contest to design a poster highlighting the problems faced by children travelling to and from school and to advise on taking safer routes.
The budding artist scooped a computer package for her school, plus a £10 gift voucher for herself. She received her voucher at a special ceremony held at Norbreck Primary school, Norbreck Road.
Runners-up Katie Davids from St Teresa Primary school and Lydia Ingram from Norbreck Primary each won computer software for their schools and a £5 gift voucher each.
Year six children from Anchorsholme, St Teresa and Norbreck primary schools all took part in the competition, which was judged by the area's Neighbourhood Watch chairman Barbara Smurfwaite, Bispham area Police Inspector Mark Hindle, and Carol Bracegirdle of Blackpool Council's road safety department.
Inspector Hindle said the competition, thought up by Bispham PCs Ken Millar and Colin Howorth, had been a success.
"Lauren was very pleased. And the pictures that were submitted were of an extremely high standard. It was quite difficult to decide on winners. There were some very good designs that were coming out so the children had obviously been thinking about it and were aware of the main issues involved in road safety.
