THERE'S a quiet revolution taking place down at the Anchor Ground.
For the newly-formed Darwen Ladies Football team have quickly established themselves as one of the best sides in the North West -- just over a year since they first kicked a ball in anger.
It's been a remarkable rise for the side which is made up of mainly teenagers.
In fact, the side that won the Ladies Division Two North championship last season was the same side that clinched the under 16s Lancashire Cup.
"And you should see our under 14s," said chairman Nigel Ramsden. "They are going to be even better.
"It's been a fantastic year for us and everything has clicked in to place. We have a very good work ethic here and were are trying to instill that in to our teams.
"We have a very good team of coaches here who have worked really hard with the girls. They deserve the success they have had so far."
Darwen signalled their arrival as a force to be reckoned with when they won the English Riviera International Cup in Torquay.
"We are only a new team but we have played top Premier League sides had have done very well against them."
There doesn't seem to be any stopping Darwen at the moment.
For since the formation of the Ladies team the club have also started up teams at under 14s and under 12s.
And all three have that winning feeling.
Darwen Ladies are currently top of Ladies Division One North
and the only team that remains unbeaten.
The under 14s are top of their division with a 100 per cent record and have scored more than 50 goals in their six games far while the under 12s have lost just twice against Manchester United and Everton and are in third place.
Darwen Ladies are currently being coached by former Blackburn Rovers Ladies player Audra Bates and Steve Walmsley who was a coach at Burnley FC Girls.
Nigel added: "Audra is a real competitor and she still likes to get on. Steve has also be a valuable asset for us.
"Everyone involved with Darwen Ladies works on a voluntary basis but commitment at every level is total."
And it is not just on the pitch that Darwen are catching the eye.
For the club has put together an impressive colour match programme filled with match reports, features and stats.
He added: "We are try are best to make it look as professional as possible and I think we are getting there."
The club has big plans for the future and is hoping to form other teams and eventually find the own ground.
Nigel added: "Ideally, I would like to see sides at under 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and senior level. And that would mean getting our own ground.
"We have been making enquiries but I would like to find a venue in Darwen because we are a Darwen team for Darwen people."
Despite the club's success, all three teams are looking for new players to strengthen the current squads.
