THIRTEEN hours of entertainment from more stars than in any other club in Blackpool.

These aren't flowery promises from president of Blackpool's Royal British Legion, Ian Coleman, who will kick off the 12th annual Poppython at the King Street venue this Saturday (Oct 20).

"This is what I class as the entertainer's contribution to the Poppy Appeal," said Ian. "It's an incredible 13 hours of fun and crazy stuff and all the money raised goes straight to the appeal for war veterans and their widows.

"From Saturday lunchtime until the early hours of Sunday we've got Johnny Casson, Tom Bright, the Mystique dancers from the Pleasure Beach, Tony Jo and Graham from the Grumbleweeds, Richard De Vere, Jimmy Nairn and a whole host of others. All this for just for £2 admission -- and people can come and go throughout the day as they like."

Ian is producer of the show as well as compere for the entire 13 hours and this year is joined by the Terry Martin Duo.

Johnny and Tony Jo will open the show at noon and the national fundraising officer for the Poppy Appeal Noel Rogers will be there on the day as will Blackpool's mayor Sue Wright.

Added Ian: "We've had some illustrious openers over the years including Lord Kitchener, Darren Day, Russ Abbot, and Billy Griffiths.

"And it's not just acts. There will also be auctions and raffles with a £1,000 grand prize draw taking place on Sunday afternoon.

"I started the Poppython in 1990 and it was so incredible I've carried on every year since. And our total of money raised to date is an amazing £62,580.

"All the stars donate their time absolutely free and all they get out of it is a free drink! Federation Brewery have kindly donated the drinks for the day. But I'm sticking strictly to milk until midnight as I've so much to organise. But I'll be lubricating my tonsils with something a little stronger after that!"

The 12th Annual Poppython kicks off at noon on Saturday at the Royal British Legion club, Blackpool, until 1am on Sunday. Doors open at 11am and admission is £2.
