A GRASSROOTS scheme to look after the environment in East Bury is about to bear fruit elsewhere.
A £2,500 cheque from the Bury East area board's kickstart funding scheme will expand the Environments for the Community Project into a wider area.
Councillor Trevor Holt, area board chairman, said the project had proved popular in schools inside the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) East Bury Initiative area.
"We felt that the scheme could have an even bigger impact if we could bring in areas such as the parts of Redvales, Moorside and East Ward which fall just outside the designated borders," he said.
"This funding will allow project officer Sandy Mohamet to be joined by an assistant, Peter Hyde, and they will be able to raise environmental awareness in schools across the area and also carry out a number of small-scale environment improvement schemes."
Coun Holt added: "The Environments for the Community Project has achieved some very good initial successes. Now there is the chance to build on those and extend the benefits across the whole of Bury East."
