A TEENAGE Blackpool driver was killed in a crash which left his friend seriously injured.
Kevin Berry, 15, of Healey Street, Layton, suffered fatal head and chest injuries after the Ford Fiesta car he was driving collided with a wall on George Street, Blackpool, in the early hours of Saturday morning (Oct 20).
Police and Fire and Rescue services were called to the scene at around 1am, and the two boys were cut from the wreckage by fire crews.
Kevin Berry was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other youngster, who has not been named by police, was taken to hospital with a fractured lower spine and right arm.
A Lancashire Police spokesman confirmed Kevin Berry had been driving the car, accompanied by one passenger who was a 15-year-old friend of the driver.
"It would appear that Kevin Berry had his friend staying with him at his home address in Layton when they both left the house in the early hours of the morning, having taken the keys to Kevin Berry's mum's car -- obviously that was without permission," he said.
The teenager then drove the car down George Street but collided with a low wall at the end of the street, he added.
It is believed that the vehicle collided head-on with the wall, and the force of the impact pushed the front of the car and its engine on to the teenagers.
The reason the boys had taken the car is still unclear, and police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash to contact them on (01253) 293933.
