HOLCOMBE Brook Tennis Club ladies have won the premier Lancashire knockout competition for the Liebert Rosebowl.
In the final they defeated defending holders Blackburn Northern by a comprehensive 5-1.
Holcombe Brook's first pair, Alison Smith and Lisa Jackson, easily overcame Blackburn's number 1 and 2 pairs, Atherton/Thomas and Holtby/Batchelor, 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively while the second pair, Rachel Anders and Sue Lawson recorded wins of 6-4, 6-0 against Holtby/Batchelor and 6-4, 6-2 against Northern;s third pair, Hick/Hext.
The local club's third pairing of Emma Tootell and Hayley Warrington went down 6-4, 6-1 against Blackburn's first pair but had splendid 6-1, 6-4 victory over Hick and Hext.
To reach the final Holcombe Brook defeated Campion (Crosby) 7-2, Markland Hill (Bolton) 6-0, Vagabonds (Liverpool) 6-0 and Birkdale (Southport) 6-0, thus rounding off a successful season which highlights the strength in depth of the club's squad of players.
