THE fears expressed in the letter from J. Brooker-Cullen (Oct 19) regarding access to Fairfield Hospital have been reported to Bury Council at every opportunity by a number of individuals and organisations.
Bury's Community Health Council has relentlessly campaigned for a dedicated road with direct access to the hospital and has gone to the expense of commissioning an independent traffic survey which supports its concerns.
Individual members of the Conservative Group on Bury Council have, in addition to raising the issue at committee level at every opportunity, also attempted to bring the matter to the attention of the public through the various area boards and were only prevented from doing so through a technicality.
It is, in my opinion, difficult to understand the stance adopted by some of Bury's Labour councillors that the existing access to Fairfield Hospital is adequate, especially considering that, as far as I am aware, the funding for a new direct access road would come from the health authority and not from Bury Council.
