AS the first anniversary of the death of Rossendale man Ron Cobbledick approaches, his widow Audrey seems no nearer to finding his killer.
On Tuesday she will have been without her husband and best friend for exactly one year after he was knocked off his motorbike on the M40 and left to die.
An inquest in to his death led to an open verdict being recorded and the driver of the truck which mowed him down has never been identified.
Ron, 43, of Burnley Road East, Waterfoot, had left his home at around 3am on October 30, 2000, to travel to London, where he worked during the week. He had been riding his 125cc bike along the motorway near Henley-in-Arden at 6am when he was hit by the lorry.
The truck driver fled, stopping only to remove the wreckage of Ron's scooter from under his lorry, leaving his body on the carriageway to be struck several more times.
The crash was shown on BBC TV Crimewatch UK and resulted in 180 calls and 10,000 posters asking for information about the accident were put up. Audrey has continuously urged people to help her catch her husband's killer and said: "No-one will be safe on the road while my husband's killer remains free."
This weekend she was spending time with her family, including her grandchildren, who have travelled up from Devon to be with her for the anniversary of Ron's death.
She said the only way she would be able to move on is if someone was caught for her husband's death.
