N LEWIN (Letters, October 24) is simply wrong and presents a situation on the Ellenshaw and Two Gates area of Darwen which just does not exist.
Prior to the transfer of the housing stock to Twin Valley Homes earlier this year -- a process overwhelmingly supported by tenants -- agreements had been throughout the borough to provide units of accommodation under the government's dispersal programme.
As a multi-cultural, diverse society which the federation enthusiastically endorses, the commitment has been strongly welcomed.
It needs to be said categorically -- there is no link between the above and the plans for demolition in this or any other area.
N Lewin is wrong to suggest any lack of consultation. Tenant representatives and Twin Valley staff have met and continue to meet on regular occasions to plan carefully and sympathetically any demolition and relocation for those affected. The Tenants Federation is not new to this process having successfully achieved this in the Roman Road area of Blackburn.
Any individuals placed under the disposal programme will be rehoused in exactly the same way as any other tenant. I hope this clarifies N Lewin's concerns.
MICHAEL BARRETT, Chairman, Darwen District, Blackburn with Darwen Independent Federation of Tenants, Anchor Avenue, Darwen.
