THREE men were arrested after a man died after he was hit by a car while crossing a busy Blackburn road last night.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was on a traffic light controlled crossing on Higher Audley Street at the junction with Copy Nook, at around 8.50pm last night when the accident happened.
Police said a BMW car allegedly failed to stop at the lights, and struck him, killing him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three men, one from Blackburn, have been arrested in connection with failing to stop at the scene of the accident. They were taken to Blackburn police station where they are awaiting further interviews.
The dead man is aged about 60 and believed to live locally, and inquiries are continuing to identify him.
It is understood he was crossing the road at traffic lights but they were not on red.
Police later found the car -- a black BMW 3 series --abandoned in the Brookhouse area of Blackburn with its windscreen smashed.
The road was closed after the accident causing traffic disruption with crowds travelling home from Ewood Park following Rovers' Leicester City clash.
