TARNISHING the profile of our great Uncle Jack will not diminish the fact that what he did for the club and town of Blackburn was nothing short of a miracle.
P Walmsley (Sport Letters, Oct 23) seems to be missing a very straightforward point, irrespective of what football division a team is playing in, investment is a very integral part of any long-term strategy the club has for its future.
Burnley, if it wasn't for the likes of Ray Ingleby and Barry Kilby, would still be languishing in the lower realms of the football league.
But through sound investment in players and a stern management team, they are now enjoying the dizzy heights of the First Division.
Their investment certainly wasn't on a par with Uncle Jack's, but it has certainly laid down foundations for their footballing future.
Having an optimistic view of playing us next season is all well, but has Stan said: "If you have a Ferrari and I have a mini there is only one winner."
It was superb beating you twice, so if you want another footballing lesson I'm sure you have fond memories of fortress Ewood.
